Local News Update- Southend City Beach new plans revealed
Have you seen the local news? City beach, which is the part of Southend seafront, across from the arcades, could undergo a transformation with the introduction of green spaces and public areas. This is part of an exciting initiative aimed at enhancing water management and bolstering climate resilience in the city.
The Marine Parade area frequently contends with surface water flooding post heavy rainfall, prompting a proactive response to these climate-induced challenges. Recently unveiled visuals showcase proposed alterations designed to address this issue, introducing specialised gardens for the collection, treatment, storage, and efficient utilisation of rainwater.
The scheme outlines the construction of designated areas to securely store excess water during significant storms, preventing flooding.
To support this project, the council has secured over £2 million in external funding, with the objective of reducing rainwater in sewers, enhancing flood resilience, curbing mains water consumption, lowering carbon emissions, and promoting biodiversity.
The council is actively seeking input from local residents regarding the project and encourages people to attend the exhibition located on the ground floor of The Victoria Shopping Centre on 1st February 2024. The consultation period will conclude on 25th March 2024.
